Classic Oldsmobile

If you are a fan of the classic Oldsmobile models, you are not alone. Many car enthusiasts sing the praises of the Olds from the earliest 1900s models, right up to the unfortunate end of the brand. The Oldsmobile got its name from company founder Ransom E. Olds, who created a brand that lasted for over 100 years. Today, the classic Oldsmobile models are popular with many collectors.

1968 Oldsmobile 442The earliest of the classic Oldsmobiles date back to the Olds Motor Works, which first started making cars in 1897. By 1901, the company had made 425 vehicles in one year. This made Olds the first company to make a high-volume of cars in the U.S. Their first mass-produced car was the Curved Dash, which they continued to make until 1907. Another great classic Oldsmobile is the Limited Touring of 1910. This was the company’s prestige car, which sold for over $4,000, a huge price in those days.

For those who love the classic Oldsmobile models, the late 1940s to early 1950s may be a favorite time period. After the war, the car industry really took off, and everyone wanted a vehicle.  Oldsmobile led the charge in designing innovative parts for their new cars including automatic transmissions and the Rocket engine. The styling during this time was also iconic and created vehicles that today are big with collectors.

Introduced as a package at first, the 442 ran until the early ‘90s and is a great find for any collector today. Also from the 1960s is the Vista Cruiser, a wagon that catches the fancies of some classic Oldsmobile fans.
